How to Silence a Squeaky Floor

Squeaky floors under the carpet can become annoying, not to mention difficult to fix. Many homeowners simply live with the squeaking. However, you don’t have to live like this. In fact, there is a very easy fix. It will take you less than ten minutes.

Locate the floor joists with a stud finder and then drive a screw through the carpet, pad and subfloor. Make sure that the top inch of the screw has no threads. If it does, the subfloor won’t suck it down to the joist. Trim screws are best because they do not pull down or pucker the carpet. If you do witness this happening, take the screw out and redo it. You can add screws until the noise quits.
